One of the most common questions we hear at Birmingham Glass is, “How long will it take from when I place my order to when the new windows are fitted?”
We understand that waiting for home improvements can feel like an eternity (upgrading your home is an exciting time after all!), so let’s break down the typical timeline to help you set your expectations and plan accordingly.
Understanding the timeline
At Birmingham Glass, we always strive to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible. Generally speaking, you can expect the entire process to take around 4 weeks from placing your order to having your new windows or doors fitted. However, there are a few variables that can affect this timeframe.
Typical process timeline:
Initial contact and appointment booking (same day or within 24 hours)
After you reach out to us, whether through our website or a phone call, we aim to respond and book an appointment for a survey within the same day or at the latest, within 24 hours. We know your time is valuable, so we try to be as prompt as possible.
Quotation (same day or within 24 hours)
Once our team has assessed your needs, we’ll provide you with a detailed quote. We aim to get this to you within the same day or, if necessary, within 24 hours. This ensures that you have a clear understanding of costs and can make informed decisions.
Quote acceptance and survey (within 7 days)
After accepting the quote, we schedule a precise survey of your property. This is typically done within 7 days to ensure we capture all the necessary details to provide a perfect fit.
Manufacturing (approximately 3 weeks)
The manufacturing process generally takes around 3 weeks for most products. However, this can vary depending on the type of window or door. Custom or composite options naturally might take a bit longer, as composite materials require more time to manufacture.
Fitting and installation (upon completion of manufacturing)
Once the products are ready, we’ll arrange a fitting date. This usually occurs within a week of the completion of manufacturing. For standard orders, you’re looking at around 4 weeks from the initial order to installation.
Special cases and expedited service
While our standard process is typically around 4 weeks, we understand that sometimes you need things done sooner. Here’s how we handle urgent requests:
Urgent orders (2 weeks)
If you have an urgent need, such as a sudden issue or an impending event, we can often expedite the process to approximately 2 weeks. This involves prioritising your order and working closely with our manufacturing team to speed things up. Please note that this is subject to product availability and current workload, we can’t always guarantee it as an option, but we will always try our best to help.
Immediate repairs
For those situations where you need immediate repairs — like broken glass or malfunctioning handles — we offer swift service. We can often handle these repairs on the same day or the following day, ensuring that your home remains secure and safe with as short of a delay as possible.
Product-specific timelines
Different types of windows and doors have different manufacturing timelines:
Composite windows and doors
Composite products are known for their durability and energy efficiency but require a bit more time to manufacture. Typically, these can take up to 3 weeks. Due to their complexity, fast turnarounds are limited, so it’s a good idea to plan ahead if you’re considering this option and need them done at a set time.
Standard and UPVC windows
For standard windows and UPVC options, the manufacturing time is usually shorter, around 3 weeks. This is because these are more readily available and generally quicker to produce.
Custom designs
If you have a bespoke design in mind we’ll always try to accommodate your vision but the timeline may extend beyond the typical 3 weeks due to the additional customisation required. We’ll work closely with you to provide an accurate timeline based on your specific requirements.
