Buying new windows or doors is a big investment, so it’s only fair to expect a solid guarantee. But not all warranties are worth the paper they’re written on. Some companies make big promises but disappear when you actually need them.
So, what do we at Birmingham Glass offer? And what should you be looking out for in general when it comes to window and door warranties?
What’s included in our 10-year windows and doors guarantee?
At Birmingham Glass, we’re so confident in our products that we guarantee them for a full 10 years! That means, when you buy any window or door from us, they’ll be covered for a full decade. That includes:
- The frames
- The locks and hinges
- The installation itself
If something goes wrong with any of these, we’ll fix it, no debates and no hassle. However, there are two things our guarantee doesn’t include:
- Broken glass
- Split silicone
This is because glass can break for all sorts of reasons, for example, an accidental knock, a stray football, or a stone kicked up by the lawnmower. As these external factors are beyond our control, they aren’t covered.
Silicone, on the other hand, naturally shrinks over time. This isn’t a fault, it’s just what happens with this type of material. If you ever notice small gaps forming, a quick reseal is an easy fix. If you’re not sure where to get the right silicone or if you need some extra help applying it, come visit our trade counter! We’ll be able to point you in the right direction.
What to watch out for when comparing warranties
Not all warranties are as reliable as they seem. Before you commit to a supplier, take a closer look at what they’re actually offering:
Who is providing the guarantee?
Some companies act as middlemen, selling products they don’t manufacture or install themselves. When something goes wrong, they might send you chasing after another company instead of handling it themselves.
Will they still be around in 10 years?
A long guarantee doesn’t mean much if the company disappears before you need to use it. Smaller businesses come and go, so it’s worth choosing a supplier with a proven track record.
Do they have an aftercare team?
Some companies focus only on selling and installing but don’t have a dedicated team to deal with adjustments or warranty claims. This could be a big red flag if you need to contact them again about issues in the future.
Why choose us?
We’ve seen it happen too often. Homeowners buy windows from a company that promises a great warranty, only to find out later that they’re struggling with one of the above issues. This is why it’s always better to go directly to the source. At Birmingham Glass, we supply and install our products, so if you ever need support, you come straight to us.
Red flags in a warranty
A warranty should offer genuine protection, not just look good on paper. Watch out for these red flags when reviewing a company’s guarantee:
Vague wording
If the terms aren’t clearly spelled out, there’s a chance they’ll make it difficult for you to claim when needed.
‘Lifetime’ guarantees with hidden exclusions
Some companies advertise ‘lifetime’ warranties, but when you read the fine print, the coverage is extremely limited. At Birmingham Glass, we make it clear exactly what our warranty does and doesn’t cover.
Third-party guarantees
If the company selling you the windows isn’t the one actually backing the guarantee, you might end up dealing with a manufacturer or supplier who has different (and often stricter) policies.
No written proof
A verbal guarantee is worthless, if they won’t provide a written document detailing what’s covered, walk away.
Difficult claims process
If there’s no clear way to make a claim, or you need to jump through endless hoops, the warranty probably isn’t as good as it seems.
Why dedicated aftercare support is so important
A good warranty is about much more than just covering faults, it’s about having someone to call if you need help down the line. That’s why we have a specialist after-sales team to handle things like adjustments and realignments. Houses shift and settle over time, and sometimes doors or windows need a little tweak. We’re here for that.
And don’t worry about keeping track of paperwork, we send you a written guarantee, but we also keep your details in our system. If you ever need us, we’ll have your records, so we’ll know exactly what products you had fitted and when.
